Advanced Liposuction for Body Contouring

At Marietta Plastic Surgery near Atlanta, advanced liposuction techniques are provided to our patients, eliminating localized pockets of fat and creating a leaner body contour. There are few people in the world who are happy with their bodies as they age. This is especially true as the body tends to increase fat stores around the buttocks, belly, hip, and thighs with age. Many people can successfully keep off weight and maintain a pleasing body contour by following a healthy diet and exercising regularly. However, for others, genetics prevents fat-loss in some areas. Regardless of how much these people diet or exercise, these stubborn fatty areas just do not go away, and they cannot become lean and healthy-looking without some extra help.

At our Cobb County offices, we offer Atlanta-area patients liposuction as a means of getting rid of these fat deposits for good. Whether your problem areas are in your hips, thighs, buttocks, knees, back, abdomen, calves, chin, or neck, liposuction can significantly reduce fat and give you a leaner, more youthful appearance. By removing stubborn, localized areas of fat, our patients can take years off of their appearance or perhaps gain the confidence to wear a favorite swimsuit again.

Some other, more specific body contouring procedures include male breast reduction, which eliminates overdeveloped male breasts, and buttocks contouring. Often, female patients choose to undergo buttocks implants in conjunction with liposuction to enhance feminine curves and eliminate fatty areas.

The Liposuction Procedure

At Marietta Plastic Surgery, our surgeons use the more advanced tumescent technique of liposuction to provide our Atlanta-area patients treatment of a larger range of areas with increased precision and a faster recovery than was possible in the past.

First, the liposuction surgeon injects the problem area with a sterile saline solution in order to make it “tumescent,” or firm. This solution acts as a local anesthetic and constricts the blood vessels, resulting in less discomfort and bruising that is experienced after traditional liposuction procedures.

Once the area has become firm, the surgeon makes a tiny incision and inserts a narrow tube through which excess fat cells are vacuumed out. When the fat cells have been removed and the area has achieved the desired contour, the surgeon sutures the incision.

Liposuction and body contouring procedures vary greatly depending on the body area(s) and extent of contouring, though surgery typically takes one to two hours. Contact our Atlanta-area liposuction center for more detailed information on our procedures, including male breast reduction and buttocks implants.

After Liposuction Surgery

After the liposuction procedure, patients may experience numbness, swelling, discomfort, and fluid drainage from incision sites. In spite of discomfort, liposuction patients should walk around as soon as possible to reduce swelling and increase blood circulation. Patients are able to return to work within a few days, but should avoid strenuous activity for three weeks as they continue to heal. In about six to twelve weeks all swelling should subside, and new contours will fully emerge.
